While the exact construction date of The Quarters is unknown, it is believed to have been built around the time the property was first settled in 1880. Both the woolshed and the quarters are locally heritage-listed.

Traditionally, shearers’ quarters provided simple, communal accommodation for workers during the annual shearing season.

Since the early 1980s, a local shearing team has travelled to the property daily, leaving the quarters without a purpose and gradually falling into disrepair.

Today, The Quarters begins a new chapter—restored and reimagined, with the hope they will stand for another hundred years, continuing to add to the rich history of Bull Island.

RENOVATION

In 2022, renovations began to restore the original stone building, which housed the kitchen, dining room, and laundry. The remaining structures, beyond repair, were carefully dismantled, with their beautiful old timbers thoughtfully repurposed throughout the renovation. Every detail has been carefully considered using local wherever possible.  We have showcased wool throughout the interior as a nod to the buildings past.

Transforming what was once an almost-ruin into a welcoming retreat was no small undertaking, but we are proud to now share this unique space with our guests.
